SJBC Awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag

SJBC has been awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag, recognising our commitment to environmental education and sustainability.

The Eco-Schools Programme helps schools across Northern Ireland integrate environmental learning into everyday school life. It encourages students, staff, parents, and local communities to work together to promote sustainability and take practical action for the environment.

Through hands-on projects both inside and outside the classroom, the programme links directly to the curriculum while inspiring young people to make a positive difference. Schools that meet key environmental and educational criteria are awarded the internationally recognised Green Flag, which must be renewed every two years.

In 2025, Northern Ireland became the second country in the world to have 50% of its schools holding an active Green Flag — achieving this milestone five years ahead of the UNESCO target of 50% of schools “greened” by 2030.
