Careers Education at SJBC
At St John the Baptist's College, we place great importance on Careers Education as a key part of our students’ personal development. In today’s rapidly changing world, it is essential that young people are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their future pathways. We are proud to offer a rich and varied Careers programme that reflects our commitment to preparing students for life beyond school.
How Careers Education is Delivered:
- Years 8–10: Careers provision is delivered weekly through the Employability module within the Learning for Life and Work (LLW) syllabus. This introduces students to key concepts such as personal skills, career planning, and the world of work.
- Years 11–12: Careers education continues through LLW and is further enhanced by modules within the King’s Trust and Preparation for Adult Life courses. These programmes provide deeper insights into career pathways, enterprise, and life skills.
- Students in Years 11 and 12 also benefit from discrete weekly Careers sessions, where they explore study and career options using the newly acquired PeopleHawk platform—a powerful digital tool that helps students identify strengths, build CVs, and research future opportunities.
- The College works in close partnership with the Careers Service, ensuring students receive expert guidance and support. As part of this collaboration, all Year 12 students are offered one-to-one Careers interviews to help them explore their options for transition into further education, training, or employment.
- To further enrich our Careers provision, the College has subscribed to Young Enterprise, a leading organisation in enterprise and financial education. Through this partnership, students across all year groups participate in engaging workshops and activities designed to develop entrepreneurial thinking, financial literacy, and workplace readiness.
- Throughout the academic year, students also take part in a variety of workshops, guest speaker events, and educational visits, all aimed at broadening their understanding of the world of work and inspiring ambition.
We encourage parents and guardians to take an active interest in their child’s career development and to discuss the topics and tools being explored in school. Your support is invaluable in helping students make confident and informed choices.
If you have any questions about our Careers provision or would like to get involved in supporting our programme (e.g. through talks, mentoring, or work experience opportunities), please do not hesitate to contact the school.

PeopleHawk
This year, St John the Baptist's College has invested in PeopleHawk - an exciting new AI based platform that allows our Year 11 and 12 pupils to build a "skills-focused" digital portfolio that can be shared with colleges, universities and employers.
Through the PeopleHawk platform, pupils will explore their personality traits, work styles and transversal skills and have potential career paths recommended to them based on these factors.
PeopleHawk utilises Artificial Intelligence, Gaming, Social Media and Video Streaming to help pupils identify their strengths and potential career paths, work on strengthening their skills while developing digital CVs and elevator pitches which can be shared with schools and prospective employers.
