Together: Building a United Community

St. John the Baptist’s College and Clounagh Junior School have the opportunity to run a shared education project entitled “Together: Building a United Community - Portadown Educates Together”. The project runs from September to December.

The aims of the project are:

  • To promote positive attitudes towards people from different backgrounds
  • To develop contacts and friendships between young people from different backgrounds
  • To encourage a shared community through shared activities
  • To recognise the role of young people in peace building
  • To create a safe community for young people and enable the sharing of experiences
  • To promote and develop cultural expression and a better understanding of and respect for cultural differences

We run the workshops in both schools and in the local community. Some of the events include;

  • Team building activities – ‘it’s a knockout’
  • Group discussions on current issues facing our 2 communities
  • Sponsored walk
  • 3 day residential in Shannaghmore
  • ICT activities
  • Final celebration event with staff and parents

Some of the pictures below will give you an idea of the fun we had.
